Creating a feature list in WHM

cpanel-whm, servers

A feature list controls which cPanel tools a package exposes. Use it to provide a purposeful set of customer tools while keeping package resource limits, server permissions and installed software as separate considerations.

Check access and requirements

Plan which functions customers require, including files, email, databases, backups and DNS. Confirm that your reseller role can use Feature Manager. Enabling a checkbox does not install software or override a feature disabled by the server administrator.

01 Create a feature list in WHM

  1. Open Packages > Feature Manager. Enter a descriptive name under the new-list control and create the list.
  2. Select the tools required for the plan. Read unfamiliar entries before enabling them, particularly shell access, DNS editing or third-party integrations.
  3. Save the list. Avoid modifying a shared default list when you only intend to create one specialist plan.
  4. Open the relevant package and select the new feature list, then save the package. Merely creating a list does not automatically assign it to customers.
  5. Test with an account on that package and confirm that the customer can complete the intended workflows without unnecessary administrative privileges.

How do I verify the feature list works?

Check both a tool you enabled and one intentionally excluded. Compare the feature list assigned to the actual customer account if the visible tools do not match your expectation.

Resolve setup problems

If an enabled tool is absent, it may require installed server software, additional permissions or a compatible theme. A server-wide disabled list overrides ordinary feature lists. Ask support to investigate the specific tool rather than enabling every option. Preserve your original list so an accidental change can be reversed.
