Editing reusable headers and footers in SitePad

development

A reusable header or footer controls information appearing on multiple pages, such as navigation, a logo, contact details or policy links. Identify the shared component before editing so you do not maintain different copies of the same information.

01 Edit the shared component

  1. Open the correct SitePad website and inspect two or three public pages. Note any home-page header or special landing-page variation that should remain distinct.
  2. Find the shared header or footer used by those pages. In the editor layout documented under the older end-user interface, this is a Header or Footer entry under Pages > All Pages. A template-based layout can use an assigned global template instead.
  3. Open that shared item for editing. If the selected object is a Template widget, check its Select Templates setting to identify the global template it displays.
  4. Update the required text, logo, navigation or links. Keep a copy of the previous content before removing a section used throughout the site.
  5. Save or update the shared component and publish any changes required by your editor. Do not create a new ordinary page simply to replace an existing shared header.
  6. Check several live pages, including the home page, a long content page and a mobile view. Verify the logo link, menu, contact links and footer policy destinations.

Common questions

Why did only one page change?

That page may use a different template or contain a local copy. Inspect which shared component each page actually references before repeating the edit.

Why did every page change?

That is the intended effect of editing a shared component. Restore the saved content if the change was meant to apply to one page only.

What if the documented menu is absent?

SitePad has different editor generations. Send support the website and editor screen name so the installed interface can be identified without resetting the design.
