Creating grouped products without duplicating checkout items

wordpress

Use a grouped product to present several separately purchasable products together on one page. The group is a catalogue container; its child products supply their own prices and purchase details.

01 Decide whether a group fits the offer

A group works when customers can choose quantities of related items, such as matching accessories. If you need one fixed bundle price, mandatory components, complex configuration or shared bundle inventory, core grouped products may not provide the required behaviour. Evaluate a suitable supported extension for that specific requirement.

02 Create the grouped listing

  1. Create and verify the individual products first, including prices, stock and shipping data.
  2. Add a new product with a useful group name and explanation of the collection.
  3. Select Grouped product in Product data.
  4. Use the Linked Products controls to select the child products that belong in the group.
  5. Add the group image, description and appropriate catalogue categories.
  6. Preview and publish the group after testing how customers choose the child quantities.

Where do I set the group's price?

The child products provide their own prices. A grouped page does not automatically apply a package discount or make the collection one indivisible purchased item. If you advertise a combined offer, verify that the actual cart totals and conditions match that claim.

Why do child products also appear in the shop?

They are real products with their own catalogue visibility. You can review their visibility settings if they should mainly be reached through the group, but hiding them from catalogue listings is not the same as making them inaccessible or preventing direct purchase.

03 Check checkout and fulfilment

Add different child quantities from the grouped page and inspect the cart. Confirm that each selected child appears once with the correct quantity, price, stock and shipping treatment. Test an unavailable child so the page does not imply that the whole collection can always be purchased.

04 Maintain one source of product data

Update the existing child products when their prices or stock change rather than creating duplicate copies solely for the group. This keeps fulfilment identifiers and order history consistent. When retiring the grouped presentation, review links and navigation before deleting the container, and preserve the child products that are still sold or referenced by historical orders.
