Asking WordPress AI Engineer to diagnose before changing files

nabwp, ai-engineer

Use a diagnosis-first request when you want WordPress AI Engineer to explain a problem before making changes. It can inspect available logs, files, WordPress information and website responses, then propose a targeted repair based on what it finds.

01 Set the investigation scope

Choose the correct site and state whether it is live or staging. Describe the failing action, the last known working state and recent changes. Ask for the likely cause, supporting evidence and a minimal proposed fix. Keep the change-without-asking option disabled while you assess the investigation.

02 Review the sequence

  1. Submit a request such as: “Inspect why this page returns an error. Read relevant logs and configuration first, then explain your findings before proposing any write.”
  2. Watch the activity feed to see which checks run and what they return.
  3. Confirm that the evidence refers to the intended page and installation.
  4. If the Engineer proposes a change, review the exact action and recovery plan.
  5. Use Go ahead only for the understood action, or Don't to decline it and request an alternative.

Does a read-only request mean nothing can ever execute?

Diagnostic tools can load WordPress and its plugins, and a website request can trigger normal application behaviour. The request limits the intended investigation, but it is not a substitute for isolating a staging store's payment, email and scheduled integrations. Be explicit when even ordinary application requests have business consequences.

What if the Engineer pauses?

It may pause after several steps or when available AI allowance is exhausted. Review the completed findings before asking it to continue. Avoid starting a new investigation merely because the current one paused, since that can repeat work and consume additional allowance.

03 Verify the proposed explanation

A log entry can be related without being the root cause. Ask how the finding explains the observed symptom and what test would distinguish it from another possibility. Prefer one justified change with a measurable result over several speculative edits. If the required operation exceeds the account's permissions or available tools, preserve the findings and send them to support instead of requesting root-level work or an unsupported bypass.
